15/08/2016 - Starting January 1st 2017, Super 95 fuel will no longer be available. The Belgian government as well as other European countries have decided to replace this type of fuel by the more ecofriendly alternative 95 E10. What is E10 and what are the consequences of this change? You’ll find it here.
The department of economics says 9 out of 10 vehicles are compatible with 95 E10 so certainly not every vehicle is compatible. The Febiac website http://E10.febiac.be/NL (only available in Dutch or French) allows visitors to determine if a vehicle is compatible with the new fuel. When the result is not conclusive or cannot be found, the car dealership must be consulted.
Vehicles which are not compatible with the new fuel must switch to the 98 fuel. When 95 E10 is used by mistake, no action must be taken other than fill up with 98 the next time. Continuing using 95 E10 in incompatible cars can cause considerable damage and must be avoided.
The new fuel will be more expensive compared with the Super 95 fuel. At the time of writing, no exact price is known but it is estimated 95 E10 will cost 1 to 3 Euro cent more per liter. Consumers are not at all happy with this switch; it will limit their options and will push them to a higher price either way.
